This caring cat adopted eight infant hedgehogs that had lost their mother in a lawnmower accident and served as their foster parent and wet nurse. They were taken in by caregivers, who tried to hand-rear them, but they wouldn’t take food from a bottle or syringe.
The mother of the hedgehogs was struck in the head by a lawnmower, according to Alyona Asnovina, deputy director of the Sadgorod Zoo. She abandoned her eight children without a mother. They did not eat by themselves. The hedgehogs were becoming hungry after two days.
“I noticed our cat Musya in the yard,” she said. I seized her in an instant, placing her next to the young hedgehogs. They literally approached the cat a few seconds later, and as soon as they felt her warmth and caught a whiff of her, they knew just what to do.
The cat, to her surprise, knew right away what was wanted of her. Fortunately, the hedgehogs started to nurse when she lay down.
Fortunately, Musya still had milk after caring for several foster kittens, and the little orphans warmed up to her right away.
She looks after the hoglets at night in addition to feeding them. Due to the warmth and milk that their surrogate mother provides, the young hedgehogs are thriving. Unconditional affection from a mother cat has no limits!
