A silver lining in what has been a depressing narrative is the successful ending for two dogs who were saved from the significant animal cruelty case in Nye County.
The dogs in that case—Vasili Platunov and Oksana Higgins—are getting assistance and, in this case, a new home and a fresh start, while the humans, who are facing felony charges, are receiving it.
The Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals had adopted Cherry Cola out to four homes in five months when we first reported her tale. The previous one dropped her close to Apex in the desert. She was discovered and sent to the Animal Foundation by good samaritans, where she was exposed to a disease outbreak.
She has finally found a forever home after quarantine and a lot of work by NSPCA workers.
Thankfully, she is not alone.
Another dog allegedly subjected to mistreatment and hoarding at the Est Alfa kennels in Nye County is named Yzma.
She has spent a little more than two months in the NSPCA shelter.
She is gentle, according to the staff, but hasn’t been socialised and is still wary of people despite their concerted efforts to get her ready for adoption.
