Since escaping from a pet container at Boston’s Logan International Airport nearly three weeks ago, a family’s cherished pet cat has been avoiding airport staff, airline employees, and animal experts. On Wednesday, the cat was finally captured.
Whether it was through exhaustion or hunger, the cat named Rowdy finally allowed herself to be captured this morning, according to a statement from an airport official.
Rowdy received a health examination and will be released back to her family.
“She looks great, is happy to be with people and I am sure will be happy to be reunited with us,” her owner Patty Nolet Sahli posted on Facebook.
Rowdy’s time on the run started on June 24, when the family arrived home from an Army deployment to Germany, according to a previous post by Sahli. The 4-year-old black cat with green eyes escaped her cage when their Lufthansa flight touched down and ran after some birds.
Rowdy was soon the target of a chase as a result of her escape, which sparked a large investigation involving airport and Lufthansa staff, workers on the construction site, and animal welfare activists, as well as the use of wildlife cameras and safe-release traps.
According to Sahli, Lufthansa even employed a tracker to capture Rowdy.
Despite repeated sightings, Rowdy consistently avoided her pursuers, but now that she has been located, some peace has returned.
