Cats are born escape artists, but Ashes, a feline who vanished from her Maine home seven years ago, actually pulled off a remarkable disappearance.
Fortunately, a microchip allowed a perceptive veterinarian in Florida, some 1,400 miles from Maine, to locate her. indicating that Ashes and her human mother Denise Cilley and her human sister Katie would soon be reunited in happiness.
Denise told Patch that she believes the kitten, who was just a year old at the time, got out when Ashes fled Cilley’s house in August 2015. Calling her name and speaking to neighbours, she searched the neighbourhood thoroughly in search of her cat but was heartbroken to find no trace of her.
She lives in an area with wild predators like foxes and fishers (large relatives of weasels). She lost hope when she thought that one of these monsters might have killed her cherished cat.
But then something extraordinary occurred. The Franklin County Animal Shelter in Eastpoint, Florida, called Denise on January 22 to inform her that someone had just taken Ashes in as a stray.
The vet was able to identify Cilley using the data from her microchip. He called Cilley since the contact information on the chip was accurate.
