This cat was a stray for the majority of his life, but when he met this man, everything started to change. Reddit user Mykmyk posted, “Meet Joe, a retired man-about-town and former king of the sewers.”
“Joe (formerly Hobo Joe) arrived maybe three years ago. When we would go outside to visit (which was frequently), he would sit with us and hang out in the yard, sleeping on the porch at night.
Joe occasionally would follow them on walks or spend time visiting other homes before going missing for a few days.
He would typically accompany me and the kids to the school bus stop, wait with us there, and then follow me home. We provided him with a shelter on the porch when the weather turned chilly. Before going to bed, I’d warm towels in the dryer and place them in his house, but as the winter grew harder and he became very sick, we allowed him to spend the night inside. The interval between his wandering and arrival home grew gradually longer.
“He went one day, and after a week, we started to get quite worried. I would go outdoors and call him every day for weeks while I walked around the neighbourhood looking for Joe. We anticipated the worst.
Eventually, I called for him one afternoon, and he came racing to me. We were overjoyed, but he appeared to have been in a fight—he was drenched in mud and looked quite scruffy. He had already been to the veterinarian earlier this year, and they took a shine to him. He recovered swiftly after his last outdoor experience.
Joe had left the streets for good.
“When he was a stray years ago, he was strong as nails… I detested that such a good cat had such a difficult existence and was constantly anxious. We had no intention of letting him back outside. He appeared courageous, yet he needed to find a place to live because of his advancing years.
Joe is now a purely inside cat. He’s been neutered and is content.
I believe Joe likes us and is the finest.
Joe has been living in his forever home for the past two beautiful years, and he wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
