Dibs first encountered his future father, Nate Troy, in a parking lot when he was just six months old and living as a stray on the streets. The kitty simply got into Troy’s car after deciding he wanted to go home with him. Although Troy had a cat allergy, he knew he couldn’t turn down the adorable kitten.
Sara Stromseth-Troy, Dibs’ mother, said that despite Nate having a severe dander allergy, he was aware that Dibs had chosen him to be his human.
As soon as he selected them to be his humans, he “declared dibs” on them, and the endearing moniker remained.
When Dibs was originally acquired, his family allowed him to be an indoor/outdoor cat to help him acclimatise to life inside and to control his dad’s allergies. As a result, they learned about Dibs’ passionate love for snow.
Dibs spent hours that first winter playing outside in the snow, frolicking, leaping, and having a blast, according to Stromseth-Troy. It was unlike anything I had ever seen.
Dibs’ parents realised that it was eventually safer to keep him inside all the time, but they were still determined to find a way for him to enjoy the snow. That’s when they had the brilliant idea to bring the snow inside for Dibs.
Troy grabbed a shovelful of snow after a big snowfall and went inside.
Dibs is extremely devoted to his family, and they reciprocate his affection by doing anything they can to make him happy, even if that means bringing snow indoors.
