A former employee of Salem Friends of Felines (in Salem, Oregon) discovered a litter of abandoned kittens without a mother outside last month. They had severe upper respiratory infections, were in bad health, and required immediate medical care.
She took the seven-cat litter to the shelter so that they might receive immediate treatment and cleaning. The kittens were nursed back to health and made ready to be put in a foster home with the assistance of the staff and volunteers.
They were taken in by Salem Friends of Felines volunteer Kayla when her current foster cats reached adoption age. She gave the kittens a comfortable bed to cuddle in and a cosy area to play in.
“They were about 4.5 to 5 weeks old. The orange tabbies are males, while the torties are females “Kayla gave Love Meow some.
They were given the names Danny, Sandy, Frenchie, Rizzo, Kenickie, Putzie, and Sonny by Kayla in honour of the Grease characters.
While some kittens emerged from their shells quite fast, others took their time in the security of their “cave.” The two shyest people in the group were Sonny and Frenchie. For the first several days, they spent a lot of time apart from their caregiver.
The kittens settled in well and liked their new surroundings, which included warm beds, cosy blankets, and a station that is always stocked with food and water.
Over the next few days, the kittens became more playful and confident. They explored around their space, checked out new toys and even learned to be a lap cat.
This tight-knit bunch stays close together. They play, eat and sleep in a sweet cuddle-puddle.
“After taking a wipe bath, they briefly played. A few of the infants were more frightened than others, but one of them briefly climbed onto my lap.”
Even the most reserved infants can’t resist cuddling up to their foster mother, especially when Kayla swaddles them in a cosy purrito.
They wouldn’t even approach me when I first brought them home, but now they are playing right next to me, said Kayla.
With daily snuggle sessions, the timid little tortie becomes more outgoing.
“We are moving forward very slowly. When I pick up Frenchie, she now approaches me and will occasionally even sit on my lap “Kayla gave Love Meow some.
The rest of the kittens follow suit, trickling down from their cosy beds to the food station when one goes to get a snack from the food bowl.
Kayla explained, “If one baby decides to feed, they all have to eat.”
These adorable kittens make excellent keyboard cats. A small ball of fluff jumps straight on when Kayla sets a laptop down, appearing to extend a helping paw.
These seven sweet children are doing well in their foster home. They will be prepared for their forever homes and the next chapter of their lives in a few weeks!
