Many people consider dogs and cats to be more than just pets. They play a significant role in their lives as friends and family. And in the event of an accident, they might be just as concerned for their pets as for any other family member.
And when their house caught fire, those boys’ thoughts were exactly the same. They were fortunate to have two heroes on hand to help solve the issue.
On March 5, neither of their parents were home when the fire started at their home in Central Islip, New York. Two boys, ages 11 and 13, were still able to escape the home. Unfortunately, their dog and cat were left behind, and the poor boys were at a loss for what to do.
Fortunately, one of their neighbours dialled 911, and officers from the Suffolk County Police Department quickly arrived on the scene.
The 2-year-old tabby cat named Tiger and the 2-year-old long-haired chihuahua named JJ were still inside, the boys told the cops, pleading with them to save the animals. The boys appeared to be in pain and panic. And the police made the decision to move without delay.
After entering the home through the back door, Rivera and his fellow James Galanos noticed JJ dangerously close to the flames near the sofa. The dog was brought out safely, but with Tiger, things were much more difficult because he was free and moving quickly.
The children, whose mother had briefly left them to go nearby shopping, were unharmed, as were the dog and the cat. Firefighters quickly put the fire under control after that.
