A little laundry basket with a kitten inside was given to Marie. He was coated in his own faeces and urine and covered in fleas. The under 2-pound paralysed kitten was a little creature.
Marie took him up, held him close to her, and gave him the name Charlie as he screamed in fear.
Marie had never previously cared for a paralysed kitten, so she was unsure of his future. Charlie was extremely intelligent and active despite being in a lot of pain and unable to use his back legs.
After seeing the vet, they advised Marie to put him to sleep. Euthanasia wasn’t the best option for him at that time, so she resisted doing it.
She brought him to the emergency room, where the doctors decided to save his life. Charlie’s surgery unfortunately cost between $10.000 and $12.000, so Marie started a GoFundMe page and began telling Charlie’s story. She raised more than enough cash for his surgery in less than a day.
He underwent surgery a few days later. Marie was pleased with his significant changes. He was once more able to stand up straight and move about to explore everything. He had such drive.
