Sarah was informed that Barbara the cat was not adoptable due to behavioural concerns when she first arrived at the shelter and saw Barbara for the first time.
Sarah, however, felt up to the challenge and was not discouraged by this.
Despite the fact that she was prepared to do whatever it took, she was unaware of the severity of Barbara’s issues.
When they first got to Sarah’s house, Barbara hid, making it very difficult for Sarah to get close to her.
Then, when the tables were reversed, Sarah had to wear knee-high boots for protection as Barbara would chase her around the room in full attack mode.
Sarah was very persistent, and eventually the wall in front of her would briefly crumble. At that point, Sarah understood that there was more inside.
Barbara just had to get to it because it would ultimately come to the top.
She was therefore given all the room she need and permitted to adjust in her own time.
Then, at around four in the morning, Sarah woke up to find this formerly hostile cat all over her, and as she puts it, “The rest was history!”
In actuality, Barbara has completely changed from who she was before meeting Sarah; she now wants attention and won’t leave her favourite person alone.
Sarah believes that the two of them now have a strong connection and are in tune with one another on a level similar to a mother and her daughter.
It demonstrates that there is hope for all feral cats, since they just need time to acclimate and feel secure in their new environments.
Each cat is unique, so even if it takes a year, it will be worth the effort, as Sarah noted, it only took her and Barbara a month to bond.
Barbara’s adorable and cranky experiences can be followed on Instagram.
