The kitten season is just getting started in New Zealand, on the other side of the world. It’s that time of year when unrestrained breeding among feral and stray cats results in an overabundance of helpless kittens.
For those who rescue and care for animals, this is the most terrible and horrible time of the year. As a result, kittens proliferate even as we actively participate in TNR (Trap/Neuter/Return) programmes or stray cat socialisation.
Except for one mama cat named Coco, who was thrust right into caring for her young.
Even worse, Coco is NOT an abandoned cat. She WAS “owned” by a very careless individual.
She was fortunately accepted into foster care. Fortunately, even after she has been mended and her children have been adopted, the original “owners” don’t want her back.
Though it’s incredibly upsetting and frustrating, we must keep in mind that this is what’s best for HER. However, Coco arrived alone since she was living on the streets when bystanders observed her growing tummy.
