Layla and Snally, two fuzzy rescued kittens, have ‘permanent bedhead

Tiny Layla and her furry brother Liam came at the Newborn Kitten Rescue in late September (NKR). Layla’s fur was tangled from the start, as if she had just awoken from a nap. These two were extremely fortunate to arrive with the kitten experts, where they received all they required, including “tummy tickles and warm blankets.”

The group, situated in Scottsdale, Arizona, assists neonatal kittens who would otherwise be euthanized. To survive, these children require the highest level of care and round-the-clock supervision for several weeks.

Each small life requires a team of volunteers, generous donations, and veterinarians.

The kittens were quickly weaned to wet food in this case, and there is always a messy time where the food gets everywhere.

These babies had “permanent bedhead” on top of a stuffed face.

Layla after several weeks, and you can see that even after her “glow up,” this cat will always have the softest downy fluff sticking out in all directions.

Around the same time, the rescue brought in three kittens with adorable names for the upcoming Spooky Halloween season. Snallygaster and his siblings Mothman and Grafton are their names. The names of the latter sons are inspired by West Virginian cryptid legend.

When Snallygaster came, he was an extremely sick “little monster” who required ER treatment. They had to use X-rays to determine what was causing “Snally.”

He was ill to his stomach. As you can see, he may suffer from permanent bedhead like Layla. Following the X-ray, the rescuers discovered that Snallygaster had a megaesophagus. That suggests the kitten’s oesophagus was swollen and not properly transporting food into the stomach. As a result, they regurgitate their food. It is more common in dogs, and the cause is not well understood.

They needed to feed Snally standing up to help the food go down. Fortunately, the little man seemed to like this method of feeding, and his foster mom didn’t mind lavishing him with extra care.

More tests at the vet were required to ensure Snally received the finest possible treatment. And here’s how he answered.

It’s how many of us feel when we go to the doctor.

The rescue was able to acquire a sophisticated feeding gadget that will adjust as the kitten grows thanks to donations. This may be just what you need if you or someone you know comes across a kitten with a megaesophagus.

Adaptive Tech & Consulting provided the feeding apparatus.
