L1 Visa is temporary Nonimmigrant type category for Intracompany Transferee which allow the transfer of a foreign worker to the parent branch, affiliate, or subsidiary of multinational companies in the United States (U.S) as a Manager, Executive or Specialized Knowledge Category to resume the employment with the same employer.
What is L1 Visa USA
The Employer of multinational corporations can file an L1 blanket petition for multiple employers at once which allow these employee to establish new office or branch in the U.S. This is not also easy visa process. The Major requirements for the employee or beneficiary needs the proof of working for the company for at least one full year in the preceding 3 years at the post of manager, executive or special work basis for petition filing.
L1 Visa has two Types :
- L1-A Executives and Managers and
- L1-B Specialized Knowledge Staff
L1 Visa Stay Duration:
Approved L-1A Visa Holder initially can stay for 3 Years and can extend their stay to Maximum 7 Years and along with the L-1B Visa Holder can extend their stay to Maximum 5 years in the United States.
L Visa Holder can get the Green Card:
According to Norms & Laws of L Visa type, the L1-A visa holder can file for Green Card in EB1C Category by avoiding to fill PERM Labour Certification and
L1-B Employer must need PERM Labour Certification for approval of Green Card Status.
L1 Visa Requirements
For Qualifying the L-1 Visa there are some points, keep in mind before applying as follows ;
- The Employee must be at the managerial or executive level, or have specialized knowledge posts.
- One must be employed with multinational company continuously for one year within three years outside the US.
- L-1 Visa can be applied as an “Individual Basis” or “Blanket”
What is L-2 (Dependents)
L-2 Visa is also a nonimmigrant visa which is issued to the Dependents, or spouses & unmarried children (under <21) of L1 Category Principal holders.
There is also amendment in law of recent L2 visa by adding employment authorization (EAD) to the L-2 visa category spouse or dependent of L1 visa holder. L2 visa holder submit the Form I-765 (approved from USCIS) along with application visa fees.
When to Apply L1 Visa
The L Type Visa Application can be processed up to 90 days from the date your employment status started mentioned on your form I-797 by the Embassy or Consulates.
Please keep in mind that while making your travel plans, L1 visa can be used for entry to the United States starting ten days prior to the beginning of the approved status (noted on Form I-797).

How to Apply for L1 Visa
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) approve the petition which received from US Company or Affiliate Branch, After this Employee can apply for a L-1 Visa as an individual or blanket basis.
