Specialized skillset such as continental cook or chef, or architectural and civil engineering of conventional style foreign to Japan, animal trainers, sport coach, wine steward, assessing and analyzing precious stones. These kinds of workers fall in this category. It is a must and mandatory to have a minimum of three years of experience with them.

5. Business managers those are managing an investor’s business or are going to start up some new business or those in Legal or accounting services.

6. Highly professional and skilled workers who can contribute to the Japanese economy.

7. Diplomats or Officials, Personnel of the embassies and consular offices, Diplomatic missions, Government personnel and their families. Since they have certain status accorded to them.

8. Professors and like who want the Japanese working visa for research in education in universities or equivalent educational entities.

9. Medical Professionals such as doctors, surgeons or vets. Pertaining to Japanese qualifications of medical and medicinal specialization.

Important things to note are:-

1. The Visa fee will only be refunded if the visa is not approved by the embassy.

2. The service charge which is applicable on both exempted and un-exempted visa is a must and no matter what it will be levied per application over and above the visa fees in effect from 1 April 2015.

3. Applicants submitting their applications at the Japanese Embassy New Delhi or the JVAC (Japanese Visa Application Centre) in New Delhi, Jaipur, Gurgaon, Jalandhar and Chandigarh. They have an option to receive their passport by courier to their office or residence. This service is optional and can be availed at a nominal fee of Rs. 300/- only, per application.   

4. Processing Time It Requires is of minimum 4 working days (excluding the day of application submission) to complete the visa process. Please note that the processing time may increase or decrease at the discretion of the Embassy of Japan, New Delhi.

5. All charges are to be paid in Indian National Rupee and Cash only in New Delhi.

1. A valid current Passport (with more than two blank pages). Please do submit your old passports also, if any.

2. Photocopy of the Bio Data Page of the Current Passport (First and Last Page) (Please make sure all the photocopies are in A4 size format)

3.  A completely filled and signed Visa Application Form Application.

4. One photograph taken within the last 6 months. (The photograph should be of size 2 x 2 inches, color with white background and printed on good quality paper, looking straight forward and face seen clearly)

5. Original Certificate of Eligibility and one copy of Experience Certificate (The Certificate of Eligibility is a vital component of your working visa application. It is issued by the Japanese Ministry of Justice. If the candidate is overseas, the application for it will usually be made by the prospective employer through an immigration office in Japan)

Please note – Working visas are normally granted for periods of 1 year or 3 years except for entertainers/artist/showmen where the periods are 3 months, 6 months and one year and are usually extendable.

Important Notice

From April 1 2019- The Japanese government introduced two new types of working visas.

1. Specified Skills Visa 1 or SSV1 – The SSV1 will be acquired for a period of five years and will allow for limited renewals. Entrants who have come to japan and are working through this visa will NOT be allowed to bring family members or kin.

2. Specified Skills Visa 2 or SSV2 – The SSV2 is in process as of now and can be acquired in the beginning of 2021 and it is very easy and hassle free as it allows the holders of this visa to bring family members and can be renewed indefinitely without any hassle.

Important notice – Those holding SSV1 (Specified Skills Visa 1) can later apply to change their visa status to SSV2 (specified Skills Visa 2).

Requirements for SSV1 – Entrants will be required to take a test in Japanese language proficiency and show confirmation of skills, training and experience in their respective industries. The new test is the Japan Foundation Japanese Basic Test and will be given on a computer. What it contains is good reading and good listening comprehension that to efficiently, grammar and vocabulary efficiently as well. Candidates have to reach a level of N4 (equivalent to understanding about 160 basic kanji characters plus being able to understand some basic conversational Japanese for work purposes and maintaining good relations).

The tests centres are in Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
