An elderly man who has lost everything in the floods manages to save his grandson and relocate to a new town, where a nice stranger goes above and beyond to assist him and offers him the keys to a new house. The charity of the stranger is rewarded in an unexpected way.
David, 78, stood outside the compound of his house, soaking in rain and closely embracing his two-year-old grandson, Noah. The storm damaged his home, which he had meticulously built, and he could do nothing when the tremendous rains ripped it apart.
“Oh, Lord! Give me courage. What do I do now?” David screamed hopelessly as his home was taken away from him.
David grew up in an orphanage after a difficult childhood. His wife died when he was young, leaving him with a small daughter. David overcame all of his adversities and hoped for a tranquil old age. However, the town’s flood dashed all of the old man’s aspirations.
It snatched his only daughter and her husband, leaving David to care for their baby son. If Noah’s cries hadn’t startled him, the small infant would have drowned in the water and David would never have known.
Noah was resting in his crib when a part of the ceiling fell, allowing water to flood his room. David was in the kitchen when he heard Noah sob.
As he ran over to save Noah, the ceiling began to crumble, and David was fortunate enough to flee before the entire edifice collapsed. Fortunately, his automobile was rescued because it was parked outside.
David’s final straw was losing his house, and he decided to leave town. He jumped into Noah’s car and drove through the heavy water curtains to get them out of there as soon as possible. He had managed to grab his car keys and wallet before fleeing the house, but all he had were a few dollar dollars.
David travelled through the stormy night and strong rain till he reached his destination. His hands trembled and he cried, unsure what to do next. He didn’t want to stay in the place that had robbed him of everything.
David pulled over after nearly four hours of travelling when he noticed a cluster of houses. Noah was sobbing because he was hungry, but David had no idea where he could get milk or food at that hour in this strange land. Furthermore, his automobile was nearly out of gas, so his only alternative was to seek assistance from the adjacent residences.
When he knocked on the first door, an elderly lady replied. “Excuse me, but could I just have some milk for my grandson?” David begged her to reconsider. “We’ve travelled from another town. The flood destroyed our home. We desperately need assistance.”
The woman examined him from head to toe. “Become disoriented! I’m not doing this for charity!”
“However, ma’am, please—”
The woman slammed the door in David’s face before he could finish his sentence. He knocked on the second door, dejected, but was again turned down.
Still, David didn’t give up and went door to door, but no one wanted to house a filthy old guy drenched in rain and carrying a sobbing baby.
“That kid is sobbing as if there will never be another day! You two are out!! “Another resident yelled at him.
David sat on the curb, crying uncontrollably, and rocked Noah to calm him. “You’ll be alright, I assure you. Take a look at those trees, Noah. Aren’t they beautiful?”
David was shocked when he felt a warm hand on his shoulders. When he looked up, he noticed a small, middle-aged woman staring down at him.
“I haven’t seen you about,” she commented. “Are you new around here? Because our town is small, everyone knows everyone else in the neighbourhood.”
David implored the stranger for assistance, his eyes welling up with tears. “Can I get some milk and a place to stay for my grandson? We don’t have a place to go. After the flood, we lost everything in our town. Please do not refuse us. I implore you….”
Anna, the woman, felt sorry for David and took him and Noah home.
“I’ll find another location soon. We won’t bother you for long “David told her as they approached her house, but she let him stay for as long as he needed.
During the days David and Noah spent at her house, Anna would assist David with Noah’s care, and because she worked on a small farm, she would bring fresh milk, eggs, and veggies home to keep them fed.
David didn’t have much money saved up, and the flood wrecked what he did have, so he decided to get a job so they could leave Anna’s house as soon as possible.
Something unexpected happened one morning. Anna surprised David by giving him the keys to a new house in their neighbourhood.
“We’ve just been dating for a week. “Why would you do such a thing for a stranger?” David inquired. “We can’t do it!” This isn’t necessary, Anna!”
But Anna was certain. “I raised the money with some of our neighborhood’s ladies.” The ladies felt bad for Noah and banded together to find you two a place to stay. Furthermore, the housing here is not prohibitively pricey. Because the majority of the women’s spouses are builders, this came naturally. We live a simple, organic lifestyle here, and we are delighted to assist.”
David accepted the keys with shaking hands, and his weeping did not stop. “Oh, I’m at a loss for words.” This isn’t feeling right. Someday, Anna, I shall repay the favour.
