If you don’t mind looking up, Huckleberry (a.k.a. Huck) will be glad to welcome you to the neighbourhood.
The Christmas Day-born 10-year-old golden retriever enjoys waving to neighbours and new acquaintances from the roof of his Austin home.
Huck, who was given the name Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, lives with his owners Allie and Justin Lindenmuth in Austin, Texas, and Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
Allie described her dog’s demeanour to PEOPLE as “lovable and naughty” and that “Huckleberry definitely lives up to his name.”
After the Lindenmuth family had lived in their current Austin home for a year, Huck began to display his mischievous side.
The owner of the golden retriever said, “Huck realised he could jump from the slope in our backyard onto the roof.” “After that, there was no turning back. He enjoys being up there.”
Huck’s pet parents began allowing supervised visits to the top of the house after seeing how much he loved watching the neighbourhood from the roof. These visits are now commonplace.
“Because he would otherwise stay up there all day, we only let him outside when we are home. We’ve since built him a small ramp because of his advanced age so that he won’t harm his hips climbing up there “Allie disclosed.
Huck has developed a sizable fan base of regional admirers and online supporters during the course of his years-long roof visits.
The golden retriever can be seen swimming or cuddling when Huck isn’t outdoors controlling the roof.
