Dementia patients are unable to regulate their emotions, and their behaviours can shift suddenly. Living with this condition is not simple for anyone, including individuals who have it and their friends and other family members. Dementia can cause grief if it is not treated properly.
In the case of Cheryl Yates, she had an innate sense of how to handle her dad’s dementia, who was 88 years old.
Cheryl Yates travelled to Ontario, Canada with her family to assist her father Bob, a lifelong cat enthusiast. He owned nine cats altogether over the years.
Cheryl made the decision to assist her cat-loving father at that very moment. She really purchased a robotic cat for him from Ageless Innovation’s Joy For All, a Hasbro-owned business.
You can tell how much the cat meant to Cheryl’s dad from the pictures she posted on Facebook. He simply couldn’t stop hugging the robotic cat since he was so ecstatic about the adorable gift.
Sylvie Schiller commented on Yates’ post, “My mother has dementia and she owns that cat!” Even the hue matches. He has her heart! She has had him for three years, and even though she has deteriorated, she still smiles when the nurse places him on her lap and he begins to meow or purr.
