It’s difficult when a puppy that was once bounding around gets older and slower. But the worst is when the dog’s owner knows there isn’t much time left.
A dog owner in Salt Lake City, Utah, wanted to make sure that Maggie had one last time playing in the snow.
Maggie was dying of cancer, KUTV reported.
Elijah Saltzgaber had put out a request Friday for anyone who had a shaved ice machine to make snow for Maggie, hoping to collect between 10 and 20 gallons of ice, according to his social media post, shared by Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation. He was planning on saying goodbye Monday around noon and before the final trip he wanted her to see snow that morning.
Thanks to the Salt Lake County Ice Center, he was able to make Maggie’s final hours outside memorable.
The ice crew shaved extra off the rink’s ice and loaded up buckets and bins. Saltzgaber picked up the snow and carted it to the yard to make a snow pile for Maggie to enjoy one last time.
