She wrote to the shelter right away to inquire about the cat’s availability, and she was so anxiously anticipating their response that she was unable to sleep that night. But when she returned the call from the shelter, they were shocked to learn that she truly wanted Bean.
Asked if Bean was really the cat I wanted to apply for because, apparently, no one had been interested in her previously, a kind girl from the shelter called me, Franken said. The person who called me was terrified that I had accidentally touched a button or something.
Bean was a stray who spent his time in a trailer park before entering the shelter. She had never known the warmth of a home and was afflicted with an infection in her eye as well as other illnesses. Franken, however, was determined to alter that.
In one woman’s chamber, Franken remarked, “I witnessed something much more beautiful than I could ever conceive.” Bean was so diminutive—and still is. She has the flattest face I’ve ever seen, along with very short, stubby legs and a tail. I was so overwhelmed that as I entered her room, I started crying. She was very different from what I had anticipated, but it was so much better.
Bean was brought home by Franken right away, and the cat made sure her new mother knew how appreciative she was.
