The York Wire Cloth Company was renamed to the New York Wire Works in 1888. It functioned as a factory that made wire cloth used for bug netting. It changed hands over time and was used for a variety of tasks.
But up until this point, it only dealt with wire goods!
The Wire Works was purchased by Mark Lane Properties in 2019 and they discovered that some tenants had already moved in. Because a colony of cats had moved into the old factory by this point!
Fortunately, Mark Sherman, owner of Mark Lane Properties, has a deep affection for cats. He felt obligated to take care of the cats rather than abandon them because the factory served as their home. So he devised a brilliant scheme.
Mark has been working with neighbourhood rescues to build a TNR (trap-neuter-release) strategy for the colonies over the past three years. Additionally, the cats get modest housing and medical attention here.
Every cat that was captured humanely has received shots and medical attention. And they won’t stop until everyone is apprehended and cured!
The Kitty Land Project began with the construction of a few tiny cat houses by nearby craftsman Jak Arts, who resides in the structure. Each cat in the colony now has a personal condo!
