After nine years of searching, a California woman received a startling phone call from Idaho informing her that her lost cat had been located.
Susan Moore of Clovis claimed that her cat, Harriet, vanished nine years prior. Brian Ellison, her husband, speculated that the feline may have been killed by a coyote.
Three years prior, Moore had taken Harriet in as a shelter kitten.
According to Moore, who spoke to The Washington Post, “I was quite upset about this cat being missing.” I had a strong attachment with this cat.
Moore claimed that when the Kootenai Humane Society in Hayden, Idaho, called her on Sept. 19, she was taken aback.
The caller said that Harriet had been discovered walking the streets of Hayden, more than 1,000 miles away from Clovis, and that Moore’s contact information had been provided to shelter staff by the cat’s microchip.
Moore remarked, “I wish she could talk; I’d like to know how the hell that cat got all the way to Idaho.”
The original idea was for Moore to have her brother, who lives in Idaho, pick up Harriet from the shelter, but she was worried the cat wouldn’t recognise her and might have a new family who was missing their pet.
A 75-year-old shelter worker named Maureen Wright asked Moore if she could take Harriet home with her.
According to Wright, Moore has granted her approval for Harriet to stay with her and the cat gets along well with her dogs.
