A retired guard dog adopts an orphaned kitten as her own

A retired guard dog who just fell in love with the tiny, orphaned calico kitten rescued the life of the kitten. As her young kitty friend’s surrogate mother, Lily the dog now watches over and protects her.

Every morning, Lily, a huge Akita, goes for a walk with Lorrie R. and her family near a densely forested park in South Florida.

“As we entered the park, I thought I heard a loud, amusing noise that was a bird. As Lorrie and I walked Lily, I chose to investigate the commotion, which was still pretty loud, thinking it might be an injured bird.

Although the kitten was close to being weaned from her mother, Lorrie was unable to feed her. In the hopes that they could somehow assist her, they made the decision to take her to the Humane Society.

Unfortunately, the Humane Society and the Broward County Animal Control offices reportedly stated that they would not accept the kitten and would put her down if left there, according to Lorrie. If Lorrie would hand-feed the kitten for just one month, HS promised to give her KMR and take the kitten in to be placed.

From the moment they first met, they were aware that they belonged together.
