100s of cats and dogs stranded in Afghanistan are saved by “Mission Possible”

Recently, 286 dogs and cats who were abandoned in Kabul, Afghanistan, were saved by hundreds of rescuers in an enormous effort. Pets were left behind by evacuees after the NATO withdrawal in August.

The animals were left stuck in an airport for months when an evacuation aircraft was cancelled due to the Taliban’s approach.

Dogs had to be found after being released into the turmoil and left to fend for themselves in the airport.

Despite being “devastated,” SPCA International and numerous rescue partners per Newsweek continued to work.

According to Kabul Small Animal Rescue (KSAR), cats kept in cages were exposed to tear gas at the airport as a result of collateral damage. Sadly, six cats died as a result, according to the Vancouver Sun.

Tennessee native Charlotte Maxwell-Jones established KSAR to aid in the evacuation of personnel and animals from Afghanistan. According to WBIR Channel 10, the Taliban once led her off the grounds of the airport.
