When the RSPCA received a report that numerous rabbits were not being properly cared for, the rescue dispatched a team of officers to investigate. When they arrived, they were astounded by what they saw.
In addition to being housed in confined, claustrophobic, and filthy surroundings, the 47 rabbits were Flemish giants, which meant that many of them were absolutely enormous.
According to the RSPCA, the largest of the group weighed about 18 pounds and was about the size of a medium-sized dog, “such as a Jack Russell terrier or King Charles spaniel.”
The cages the rabbits were living in were far too small to accommodate them, and overall, they weren’t being treated with the respect they deserved. They were all examined by a veterinarian after being saved to make sure their health was good.
In a press statement, Trevor Walker, an inspector with the RSPCA, said, “These poor bunnies were living in crowded and unsanitary conditions which would have been quite unpleasant for them, especially in the heat.”
Fortunately, a veterinarian discovered that they are all healthy; one of them is taking medication for weepy eyes and a cut on the back of his neck.
