The lovely senior cat “Sir Desmond Fewbeans, first of his name” was rescued during a heat wave in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Desmond was trying his hardest to survive on the streets when rescuers from Greenpoint Cats came across him in late July.
He was, however, quite thirsty from the heat, and you can see that he was starving. The rescuers were unable to leave since Desmond was so amiable and willing to accept food and water right immediately.
Desmond has FIV+, which is common among outdoor cats that engage in territorial disputes and fights, they later discovered.
Being FIV+ does not preclude these cats from living happy, healthy lives with other indoor cats, though, just like Marmalade. Indoor cats pose a very minimal transmission risk.
Desmond appeared unkempt and a little depressed, as you can see, but wow, quite the transformation was about to occur! These cats can become the most incredible companions if they are given a safe and caring environment.
Desmond Fewbeans had fully recovered and was thriving in foster care by the middle of August. The rescuers have since shared a wonderful update about the endearing cat.
