Four kittens with strangely curled ears and a suffering mother cat were brought into a shelter in New York City. They initially thought it might be due to mistreatment, but later discovered it might be an uncommon feline condition.
Little Wanderers’ foster-based rescuers are constantly caring for cats fighting for their lives in New York City’s Bronx and Manhattan neighbourhoods. In 25 years, the rescuers have encountered a variety of scenarios, but most recently, Pinky, a mother cat, who appeared to be a kitten herself, was discovered. One peculiarity shared by all four of her kittens was that their tops of their curled ears curved downward. It’s adorable but also a little mysterious.
Following a visit to the veterinarian, they discovered that the curled ears may be related to a rare condition called newborn isoerythroylsis.
When people attempt to mate incompatible purebred cats with different blood types, it can occasionally happen. A tom with type A or AB blood mates with a female with type B feline blood, which is more prevalent in purebred cats.
In layman’s terms, antibodies from the mother can target the kittens’ blood cells as they consume colostrum, the milk for the first 24 hours of life. Curled ears from decaying tissue can be one of the many signs. Additionally, it may lead to the death of tissue at the tail’s tip.
The four adorable cats with curled ears are updated to be living in a beautiful foster home with a well-known journalist who is now “an official cat lady.” They’re all doing fantastic and enjoying the carefree existence of adventure that all kittens are entitled to.
