When he stopped on a busy road to save the life of a poor, defenceless kitten, a man showed compassion and dignity to which we wish all people could aspire.
In a terrifying CCTV footage, a little cat is shown lying in the centre of a busy road, repeatedly just escaping death as numerous vehicles drive by without stopping to rescue the kitten.
The kitten is repeatedly run over by automobiles and trucks in the video, but fortunately no harm comes to him because he ends up between the wheels rather than under them.
Some vehicles swerve to avoid hitting the kitten, but they still leave it in danger of being struck.
The entire time we were watching the cars zoom by, our hearts were in our throats.
The little cat is clearly visible to the drivers, yet none of them make any attempt to stop and save it.
Instead, the constant flow of traffic continues unabatedly as the poor, terrified kitten struggles to cross to the shoulder.
But eventually a car comes to a stop.
Nobody has had the courage to save the cat until a man gets out of his car and walks over to do it.
The man is seen scooping up the frightened cat from the street and carrying it back to his car.
Now known as Denis Degtyarev, he stated that the kitten was so small that it was still unable to eat on its own in a statement to a Russian publication.
