No one actually saw the intruder the first night Johanna King on Long Island, New York, realised there was one. Around midnight on March 30, her husband heard noises in the kitchen and went to investigate. However, by the time he arrived, the intruder had already left by the dog door. Even though that appeared weird, the King’s husband speculated that it might have been a fox and went back to bed.
King initially didn’t believe her husband’s account, but she later realised that she had been using a lot more cat food lately than normal, which was strange given her solitary cat didn’t consume much to begin with.
King made the decision to install a camera in the kitchen so they could keep an eye on what was happening downstairs as they slept, just in case. She was wondering if there might truly be some truth to her husband’s intruder claim.
And the couple then learned that a cat was breaking into their house every night as a result of this.
King was completely perplexed by this finding. She had expected her dogs and cat to react to the odd cat moving into their home with a stronger, more noisy response, but after a brief fight, they gradually just seemed to accept it. The cat practically had the same appearance as the Kings’ own cat, so he fit in perfectly.
King told The Dodo that his dogs were worthless during the procedure. “I don’t know if it’s because this cat resembles my own cat so much or because this cat came in acting as though he owned the area. He seemed self-assured and familiar with the layout of the property, as was obvious from the first moment I captured him on camera. He was moving about as though he were the property owner!
She had considered adopting him herself at first, but after taking him to the doctor, they learned that Hunter had FIV and cannot coexist with King’s present cat. King is currently working with the rescue For Our Friends, for which she volunteers and fosters, to help him find the ideal home, in the hopes that he won’t feel the same way.
