Choosing a dog’s name can be enjoyable and allow owners to express their creativity.
The names of dogs can be inspired by their favourite meals, movie personalities, or even common human titles. It is ultimately up to the owners to make their choice.
However, one man was extremely irate after a stranger told him to change the name of his own dog because she thought it was “inappropriate.” He revealed on Reddit that his dog’s name is Anya, after a character from the 1990s television programme Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
But after mispronouncing her name and calling her Onion, the man still does it now and then as a “family joke.” But one woman felt compelled to tell him what she thought of it, according to the Mirror.
This is a little internal joke in my family, he wrote. Anya is the name of my dog. When she was still a little puppy, I once accidentally yelled “onion” when I was calling her inside, and she immediately ran.
Since she responds to both names, calling her Onion rather than Anya has become something of a running joke in my family.
He added, “I was in Petco selecting up presents for my dogs’ Christmas and grabbing some kitten litter. “A young boy, perhaps 14 years old, approached and was selecting a toy for his dog.
“He asked if he could pet them when he saw mine. He could pet my pets, which I didn’t mind.
“Oh, the black one is Onion (I let it slip out of habit),” I respond when he asks what their names are. “The black and white one is Pippin.”
The youngster chuckled at the dog’s moniker, adding “Onion? That dog has an odd name “.
