On his way home in the middle of September, Mateo from the south of Spain heard what sounded like a kitten as he was passing by an auto shop. He followed the sound till he found the kitten in a nearby parked bus. “I discovered him inside the engine (compartment). He sounded afraid from the little I could see of his meows “Mateo informed Meow Love.
In an effort to entice the kitten out, Mateo hurried to buy some cat food, but it was unsuccessful. The tabby wouldn’t come out of his hiding place since the noises around him were so terrifying. The man left the food near the bus and came back later when it was more calm. He saw that the meal had been partially consumed and that the kitten was being teased by adult cats nearby.
“I put my gloves on and waited for him to come out for additional food I bought for approximately three hours.” Mateo was able to get the kitten to safety by being very patient and giving it snacks. The tabby had severely infected eyes and was covered in battle scars and wounds, which he recognised immediately away. All the way to my house, he was trembling and meowing in fear. After we arrived at our destination, I placed him on a towel in my bathroom and provided him with food, water, and some adjustment time.
After the event, the tabby was a little shaken, but pleased to have a peaceful place to recover. He eventually became accustomed to his rescuer’s presence and even mustered the courage to welcome a few animals.
Mateo, who goes by mape14 on Reddit, contacted the community to ask for help caring for the small stray. “Many people gave me wonderful advise. I took him to the vet, who gave him a thorough examination and informed me of all of his problems and how I might assist them.”When they returned from the veterinarian, Mateo put the kitten back in his cosy nest and watched him until he felt secure enough to approach him.
“I sat next to him in an effort to build some trust by allowing him initiate the conversation. The moment he recognised he was secure was when he fell asleep next to me “Mateo informed Meow Love.
“At first shy, he soon developed a need for affection. I tried to pay him as much attention as I could and gave him everything I could.” The tabby made some significant progress and gained more self-assurance. His eyes were getting better, and the fleas no longer bothered him. Mateo had given the ginger kitten, whom he had called Cal in honour of a Star Wars figure, a deeper affection each day.
Mateo described the boy to Love Meow as “a very curious, active, and naughty boy that loves roaming around my house and going into hidden spots that I didn’t know I had.”
“To keep an eye on him while I’m at work, I installed a tiny camera in the room. Until I get home, he sleeps the majority of the time. He begins meowing as soon as I open the front door, and as I get down next to him and rock him to sleep, he stops.” “Cal has impacted me greatly. I experience a level of delight I’ve never had before when I hear his meow the moment I enter my home. He will undoubtedly remain in my life forever.”
On his journey home, Mateo had no idea that he would rescue and keep a kitten. Now, when he returns home, his best friend Cal welcomes him and follows him around the house.
