Karly Saltarski, a co-founder of Salty Animal Rescue, had been working with a property’s owners to save wild barn cats in their neighbourhood. She didn’t think twice when asked to take in a young cat mother and her tiny kittens.
“The owners of the house were informed that she had given birth when they heard kittens meowing in the garage. She needed to be caged since she was wild (rescued). First, they had to locate the infants that she had hidden in the storage space on the roof “Karly said.
The owners of the house were able to find the litter of two kittens after some searching. In order to ensure that no one was left behind, they also succeeded in rescuing the mother.
The days of the feral cat named Ricky having to scrounge for food and shelter were long gone, and she could now raise her kittens in the security and comfort of a loving family.
At first, Ricky was incredibly frightened of people and cowered in her nest with her kittens tucked beneath her belly. In order to avoid making eye contact with anyone, she would cram herself into any available corner.
She would hiss a few times and keep her kittens close out of instinct to protect them whenever Karly entered the room. But there was not a mean bone in her body beneath that terrified exterior. Karly wanted to change Ricky’s lack of social connections.
Karly continued to provide the cat mommy the space and regular refreshments she required to feel relaxed and at ease.
The kittens waddled toward Karly in search of attention and cuddles after they were able to move and stand on their own. Ricky gained some comfort in the fact that most people aren’t so horrible after observing the interactions between the kittens and their foster mother.
She warmed up to her foster mother gradually but definitely, even allowing herself to be petted and given head scratches. As Karly massaged the back of her ears, she felt herself dissolving into her hands.
“She has made tremendous growth. Once her young have grown up and she has received all the necessary care, she will be able to live a happy life as a house cat.
Bubbles and Julian, her demanding kittens, have a fantastic mother in Ricky. She fed them well, kept them clean, taught them all her feline tricks, and helped the two of them attain their goals.
The larger of the two and the main troublemaker is Bubbles. As they playfully run around the room, Julian follows in his paw-steps.
Ricky has grown more at ease and confidant around her foster family as she has watched her kittens flourish and grow before her eyes.
Ricky is enjoying her VIP life as an indoor cat more now that the two boys have reached the noisy kitten stage.
“Moments like this keep us moving through all the difficult periods that come with rescue.”
After several adventures outside of their playpen, Bubbles and Julian are prepared to extend their wings and take flight. Their mother Ricky keeps travelling, making new friends and getting ready for her happily-ever-after.
These adorable kitties will get to live the best lives possible because of the property owners who found them and the rescue that took them in.
