A northern Alberta animal sanctuary claims that earlier this week, when it was a brutal -40°C, it discovered five kittens dumped on the side of the road.
The Peace Regional SPCA said on Tuesday that they had received a call reporting the discovery of two, maybe three, little cats abandoned in the freezing cold by the side of a gravel road.
Five kittens were finally discovered huddled on the side of the road, “frosted and not moving,” by a staff member who had gone to pick them up, according to the shelter.
“We transported them back to the shelter, where we began warming them. Three out of five of them have evident malformations that would have hindered their ability to survive, even on a warm day, when we set them up in condos.
The shelter said that they were now warm and fed.
