Lily, a recently adopted cat, detects a gas leak and warns the owners

Sandi Martin realised she had to find a way to smile once more since she had lost all of her optimism and hope. She and her husband are foster parents for their neighbourhood shelter in Lake Oswego, Oregon, and

they are aware of the joy animals can provide. And to make matters worse, Sandi has served as Cat Adoption Team’s board president since 2012. However, one of the five cats they fostered over the course of a year was already in residence.

They believed their lives was complete again once they formally “foster failed” the adorable polydactyl, FeLV+ calico cat Lily.

It happened when Sandi joined Lily in their living room for some light play.

She plopped down on the ground with the cat and wasn’t shocked when Lily left to look elsewhere. Cats do exactly that when you try to love them—you move away.

But this time, Lily was genuinely curious about the smells that were purportedly emanating from their fireplace.
